The Three Month Mark
COMMUNICATIONCONNECTION

This past Monday marked both my 3-month anniversary of Coalesce Consulting’s launch and my first team facilitation as a business owner. Things are happening! I had the privilege of leading the Scorpion Creek Ranch core team in the first of a series of Enneagram workshops. What a deeply rewarding experience to support this new nonprofit as it launches innovative comprehensive services for youth experiencing homelessness. (Check out their website if you’re not familiar with their work.)
The Enneagram is one of the most powerful tools I have encountered in building trust and improving communication through the framework of 9 personality types. I was over the moon to witness the evolving team cohesion as they gained greater understanding about themselves and their colleagues, seeing each others’ similarities and differences more clearly. This is exactly why I began this work!
The evening was particularly gratifying after countless moments of doubt these past 3 months. For some reason, I believed I would throw open my doors and clients would line up saying, “what took you so long?” Instead I quickly learned that building a business is not for wimps. The hardest part is living in the vulnerability of unknown territory, having to trust that my passion for building strong, connected teams will find its people. So many coffees and networking events, scattering seeds with the hope they will yield at least a few flowers, sometime, somewhere.
The biggest surprise has been the amazing community that is emerging all around me. People I have just met, many reconnecting from all different stages of my life, others who have been there all along just outside of my periphery. Business leaders who believe in the power of investing in their teams, immediately understanding and sharing my vision for great culture. Consultants who are where I want to be in 5 years, generously offering me strategies and connections. One-person businesses who are similarly putting one foot in front of the other on the road to their passion. Friends and family cheering me on enthusiastically for following my heart.
I realize that building community is not only the end goal of my work, it is the fabric of the work itself. With the larger world feeling more chaotic by the day, the most important thing we can do is show up for our community right here. Holding space for people to build trust and become more connected isn’t always easy, but it’s what matters most. And I am here for it. There are so many reasons to invest in creating stronger team cohesion in our workplaces. Let’s build exponential capacity to achieve great things together that would be impossible alone.
